As someone who has read many health-related books, I found this book on somatic practices to be a standout resource for anyone looking to improve their physical and emotional well-being. The comprehensive yet accessible structure makes it easy to implement the exercises and routines into daily life.Chapter 2, "Somatic Exercises to Ease Lower Back Pain," provides practical movements that were highly effective for managing discomfort, making it a must-read for anyone with chronic back issues. I like the fact that there are a huge number of images which show how to do the exercises.Chapter 5, which focuses on "Somatics for Mental and Emotional Well-being," stood out with its "Somatic Practices for Anxiety Reduction." These exercises are easy to follow and provide a great alternative to more traditional anxiety management techniques. I had no idea that these exercises are potentially so powerful. The book also addresses specific health concerns in Chapter 6. The "Customizing Your Routine for Immune and Nervous System Response" section provides valuable insights into fine-tuning these practices based on individual needs, making it a personalized experience rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. The "Printable 28-Day Tracking Guide" and the "Weekly Somatic Exercise Tracking Worksheet" are incredibly useful tools that help keep you accountable and track your progressI enjoyed this and need to start applying this in my daily life.
I am just getting underway with somatic exercises, under the expert guidance of Dr. Griffin. I had no intention of starting a new exercise or wellness routine, and was skeptical that another book could help me or have any benefit in my busy life. I decided to give Somatic Exercise a try after a friend recommended it. I am a musician, and physical stress and discomfort are often part of my practice routine, especially after sitting at a desk for long periods for work. Right away, Dr. Griffin's approach is different than others: she intentionally writes in inclusive, supportive, non-judgmental language about the benefits and techniques of somatic exercise. Her book is based on credible, reliable, science-based research and years of practice. She incorporates case studies of real-world people who have faced challenges and have found improvement with somatic exercise. The writing is level-headed, accessible, plain, clear and easy to follow. It's relatable. The exercises are easy to follow, and Dr. Griffin's advice and guidance are friendly and encouraging, without being patronizing or preachy.I thank Dr. Griffin for writing this book, and for dedicating her time and expertise to helping people understand and practice the benefits of somatic exercise. I highly recommend reading Somatic Exercise and adding this beneficial practice to your life.
Somatic exercises emphasize mobility and the mind-body experience, while traditional workouts focus on external performance and muscle strength. The book offers a holistic 30-day program tailored for busy, health-conscious people. The exercises are easy to follow, including meditation techniques, mindfulness, and breathwork practices. I like the stories and case studies of people who benefited from the exercises. The step-by-step guide to the movements, as well as the pictures, are helpful. The author offers specific exercises for enhancing physical health, mental and emotional well-being, overcoming mental fatigue, addressing specific health goals such as chronic stress and digestive health, etc., So as specific exercises are mentioned for each topic, this also means that many exercises are repeated throughout the book. The author offers a printable 28-day tracking guide at the end of the book.My opinions are my own.
I liked the 30-day program. The exercises were clearly described, including images. There was a link to videos showing the exercises. This book doesn’t just focus on physical exercises but also includes meditation and breath work. I liked that, when needed, there were modifications provided.
I’ve recommended this book as a resource to clients who struggle to manage their stress or have difficulty implementing a quality self-care routine. It is well written and beginner friendly. The images are in color, which allows the reader to model each pose.
Very detailed and easy to follow through. I recommend this book and can't wait for the 2nd book.
As a yoga teacher constantly seeking ways to deepen my understanding and broaden my toolkit for supporting students, this book has been a game changer! I never heard of Somatic exercises before this book and I like how she makes them accessible to everyone. Her approach to teaching gentle, accessible exercises for pain relief, stress reduction, and improved mobility is clear and engaging. Each exercise is explained with such precision that you feel guided every step of the way. I found the detailed descriptions and the explanation of each movement to be very helpful. The deep relaxation techniques outlined in the book have enhanced both my mental and physical health. They have become a regular part of my daily routine, significantly reducing my stress levels and improving my overall mobility. I recommend this book to anyone looking to enhance their yoga practice.

This approachable guide offers easy-to-follow somatic exercises for relaxation, mobility, and pain relief, with helpful photos, a 28-day plan, and video tutorials for added support.
Excellent book full of simple, yet informative strategies to incorporate into a daily routine. As a wholistic therapist that incorporates somatics into her work with clients, I definitely will be recommending this book and using this as a reference tool within the treatment process. I enjoyed the graphics and video tutorials provided which is an added bonus and an extra layer of support for new beginners. Thank you Dr. Danielle for sharing your time and wisdom.
I appreciated the easy-to-follow directions and the helpful photographs that guide you through each exercise. Many books complicate things with overly detailed instructions, making you think you'll end up in the hospital if you even try them, but this one is straightforward and safe. The photos are clear and there are step-by-step instructions which make the exercises easy to follow. I've been dealing with neck pain recently, and this book has already helped me see some improvement. I’m hopeful that if I continue, I’ll find even more relief. Plus, the book is reasonably priced and available on Kindle Unlimited, which is a great bonus. Give it a try, I believe you'll like this one!

Great book, easy to follow. Recommend.
These are very simple and gentle exercises. Very safe to do. There is a lot of repetition to help you get the exercises down. I did like the part about how gargling and humming is good for you. I had never read the benefits of that before.
This is a great resource for mental health therapists to use with clients and also for self care practices. Easy to read, informative, and a powerful way to understand the journey of somatic work.
